Getting Married!

Well, all of you should have heard the news by now...especially those of you who were in on it.
Eric flew out this weekend and surprised me on Navy Pier with a gorgeous, big diamond ring.
We went on a dinner cruise off of Navy Pier on The Odyssey afterwards...without the relatives who helped keep it a surprise.
We had a busy, busy weekend. Got engagement pictures done on Saturday (check them out at: http://littlehandsphotography.typepad.com) and went out to dinner with about 10 friends. Sunday we have all the family that was in town over to celebrate. Eric left yesterday, until Thanksgiving...just 5 weeks away.

Here are some pictures of the event and ring.

We have tentatively set a date of June 19th, 2009, and are shopping for reception halls this coming weekend (Kelsey and I are)

I'll have a website up soon!

Tiemens-Wessels-Tidd bunch Favorite Photo(s)

Here's our favorite! The whole crew together. We had fun at the photo shoot, the surroundings were very nice and the photographers made it fun too, very creative.

The kids liked the one of Ron & I on the road at the "Deer/Dear Crossing"

And Grandma like the one with Anna.

Wessels favorite

Here is our favorite picture from the shoot.

We liked that they took suggestions from all of us for different creative poses. Flexibility like that makes it much more personal instead of a cookie-cutter photo shoot.

Looking forward to seeing others!

family picture challenge.

Alright, you should all have your family pictures by now. (side note: when you are printing, if you get an 8x10, be careful because these pictures were made for 4x6. Proportionately, it will have to crop some off of the sides. If there is a picture that you really want in 8x10 that crops people out, let Chris and Sara know @ littlehandsphotography@gmail.com to see if they cropped that photo to begin with.)

I know it will be hard to pick, but everyone is required to post up their absolute favorite pictures of their family...as well as make one comment about the shoot (because Chris and Sara want a lot of feedback--positive or negative)

I won't share my comments on here because I've already sent a ton of them, but here is one of the top three favorite pictures of our family (and my personal favorite)

PICTURES!!

Family,

Check out: http://www.littlehandsphotography.typepad.com/
for a sneak preview photos from our shoot on the 16th.

UPDATE (9/5/08): there is now at least one picture from each of the respective families. Apparently Kara, Anna and Ryan/Angela are the most photogenic :-)

The cds of pictures are in the mail. You'll have them soon!!

Kara's first volleyball games

The volleyball team that Kara plays for, Calumet/Calvary Christian School, opened its season Saturday with a quad tournament at Grace Baptist Academy in Kankakee. They played Covenant Christian High from Demotte, Kankakee Trinity Academy and the host school. You can get the details from the team blog, but they did win all their games, two out of three against Covenant and two straight against the other two schools. Kara played well, with a couple of big blocks, a couple of nice hits and solid defense.

New posts!

I know most of your read my blog so it seems pointless to reiterate everything, when I can just tell you to go visit our blog. I've posted a bunch of videos, a new blog post with pictures and a links to full albums!

Pictures went well on Saturday and we should have a bunch of a really good ones! Can't wait to see them. Katie, tell them they were awesome to work with!

I've been meaning to post this for awhile, but we have grandpa's old red metal tool box at our house. We took it thinking we had some use for it, but we don't. I wanted to keep it in the family if someone else would be interested in taking it. Let me know and we'll bring it home next time we're in town.

I hope most of us can make it to Uncle Wayne's race in September! Should we make a banner or shirts or something? Just a thought.

We're still discussing what we're doing for Anna's first birthday party. Whether to have everyone to our house or have one in GR and one in Chicago. We'll keep you posted, but wanted to put that in your head. Her birthday is October 18 and we may have it that day (Saturday).

I hope everyone's week goes well. Continue to pray for Martha's mom and dad as they make Grandma comfortable and also pray for peace for the whole family. Also pray for Gary's Grandpa Hall as we await more news on what kind of cancer he has and what treatment will be. Gary and I are also doing the Light the Night walk this year for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If you'd like to donate, please send me a check or you can donate online at: http://www.active.com/donate/ltnMadiso/2363_Christabelle81

Love to you all!

p.s.

I was in Escondido last week, visiting eric for the first of many times.

This is at Catalina Island off the coast. We spent a day here; biked, hiked and snorkeled. In the picture we are at the Wrigley Memorial.

Anniversary Pictures update

Hey Folks,

Some more details for the big photo shoot on August 16th, and some clarifications of previously released details.
First, Grandma would like everyone to wear WHITE, COLLARED TOPS AND KHAKI BOTTOMS. Bottoms for guys= pants. Bottoms for ladies = pants, capris, or knee-length skirts.

Most of you should have gotten an email From Sara Mannino--half of the photography team for the big anniversary shoot on August 16th. Here are the basics, in case you missed it.

Chris and Sara are doing pictures of G & G, them with the kids, with the grandkids, and then the whole group. Grandpa will get all of those pictures on a CD so that everyone in the family can make as many copies as they want. (This shoot will probably take at least an hour...starting at 2pm)

THEN, Sara and Chris will be available to do 20-minute, individual family shoots. There will be no base fee, you'll just order prints.
However, if a family wants an individual family shoot, they need to LET SARA KNOW ASAP. (littlehandsphotography@gmail.com) so she can plan it time-wise. I will plan on getting in touch with you all to find out if you are interested in the family pictures, just to make sure she knows.

Hopefully, we'll be done with the whole thing by 5pm!

Here is their website so you can check it out: www.littlehandsphotography.typepad.com

the maiden voyage

Well, there are a lot of pictures to post, but to start with, here are grandpa and uncle ron's kayak ventures into the mucky pond. My camera doesn't shoot great video, but it's something.

Family Portrait Idea

I'm a frequent blog reader and I happened upon this family portrait idea on one of photography blogs I read. It jazzes up the black and white with khaki idea and adds a color. So I thought all the grandkids and under or a certain age and under could wear the color and the rest of us split up the black and white tops with the khaki/jean bottoms. What do ya think?

Still here - promise!

We're still here, Katie! I promise! I've had a hard time the in the last couple months keeping up with my own blog b/c it has been so busy at work and we're trying to get landscaping done at home. But we're back, work has slowed down now so I have some extra time to dink around on the internet. :)
We're doing well up here! Anna is literally moving right along, she's still doing her army crawl, but she's very quick at it. She can rock on her hands and knees but flops back down to pull herself around. She does use one leg and her toes to push herself, so we're getting closer! She's getting closer to big girl food - we're on stage 2 which includes pureed chicken, turkey, and with beef with veggies or rice along with more variety in the veggies, fruit and some even say dessert. They all smell like the food they are supposed to be, but some do not look appetizing at all! She's taking 4 - 7oz bottles now and still sleeping through the night (unless she gets stuck in the slats of her crib). She screams, giggles, and talks to us or small animals and children. She also is starting to give kisses. She's so much fun and we love being parents!

All 3 of us have had some form of sickness for months now - more so drippy noses or coughs - but we're ready for it to go away. Anna absolutely hates her nose/mouth being wiped off and cries like the world is ending right there. So I could do without having to pick crusties or wipe snot away from her nose. :) Both of our jobs are going well, keeping busy with those. We're trying to finish our landscaping and hopefully will next week - that's the goal anyway. Then we can move on to painting some rooms inside. We also still are doing side work - a couple of large websites together and I have some wedding invitations I'll be doing soon. It's fun to do things that allow us to be creative and what we enjoy doing, but it's also time consuming, so we do the work when we can and our clients seem to understand.

We're heading to SoHo this weekend to visit with the fam and help Alex make his room a little more mature with some new paint. So we won't be in town for Sam's grad party although we wish we could make it home more with all that's going on, but as we all know Mr. Gas sucks the well dry each week. Hopefully we can all participate on the blog again this summer and keep in touch. You're all welcome to visit us in Allendale - stay here or at one of the many hotels around here.

To answer Katie's question: We're looking forward to our vacation to Silver Lake in August with the fam - a vacation in general would be lovely since we haven't had one in a couple years. We're also looking forward to seeing Anna go in the water for the first time, play in her little pool we got her and hopefully see her walk!

Have a wonderful and hopefully somewhat dry weekend!

Love,

Gary, Christie and the Booger

Does anyone read this anymore?

Hi folks,

Just me--checking in with some of you. Especially those whom I haven't heard from on this blog in a long time, or EVER!

I have a new feature set up where every time something is posted, you all receive emails! Unfortunately, it only lets me send it to 10 email addresses, but so far I only have eight of you on there.

Please go see my last post, then feel free to post, (with a picture, if you like) your answer to my blog question.

Also, don't forget, Samantha's graduation party is next Saturday!

milestones...

+Saturday marked my graduation with a B.S. (that's bachelor of science) degree in Business Management.

+Eric moved back to California on Tuesday.

+I started full time at Elim today! I will officially find out about the position in the next couple of weeks, because they legally have to post it for others to apply first.
Hopefully I will have a salary by the beginning of June--but I'm working there now.

+I turn 20 tomorrow!

Question/photo for the week....

What are you MOST looking forward to this summer?

Sunny pictures from Michigan

I think Spring is finally on it's way. We were able to get to take walks, open up the windows to air out this stuffed up house and see some butterflies. I posted a longer blog on my site, but I wanted to give you some sunny pictures. :) Hope to see you all at the end of April!

my spring break.

The best photo of the trip

^Eric and I at Disneyland

Hiking at Torrey Pines State Park (near a huge golf course)

San Diego Wild Animal Park (above and below)

also, I got bangs--which I decided afterward was a bad decision

Torrey Pines again
Also did a bunch of reading, sleeping and relaxing. The weather was sunny and in the mid-70's all week :-). Eric and I took a tour of Westminster Seminary, where he is enrolling for this fall (about 10 minutes from his house in Escondido)

Overall, this trip was a much needed break to get us through the last 7 weeks of school. Now it's back to dreary spring in Chicago.

San Antonio

San Antonio is our home for tonight, spent today walking on the Riverwalk in downtown San A, and exploring the Alamo. Very interesting. Tomorrow will travel to Lafayette, La., Sat we are going to a tour of Stuller, a supplier of findings, and mountings which we purchased from for many years. Sat we will go to an area near Franklin, La to work from next week. Then on the road towards home. Yesterday was not a good day for traveling, much wind. Mon evening we were in Van Horn, Texas. middle of nowhere. Had a great day Easter. Good to see some of the family. We ate well, but its not Mom's cooking.

Posting for Mom & Dad from Arizona!

We are basking in 85 degree weather and enjoying the dickens out of it. I sent 2 emails to Christie, but they aren't going through, so here goes a brief version of our trip, only backwards. Today is nice and sunny, tonight we are going into town for Good Friday services at Christ Community Church, a somewhat modern version of our church. This morning I finished in the workshop, and this afternoon Mom is finishing with Nimble Fingers, a sewing class she has been in. Yesterday, was another day in fine Az, woodshop and eating, and reading and walking, not all at the same time. We each have lost about 10 pounds and are trying to lose another 5. This AM we went to The Good Egg for breakfast, great breakfast, even if it cost 23 dollars. Now this is all out of order, yesterday and today are running together. Oh well. We went for a couple road trips to see ghost towns and found all kinds of things, cactus which are starting to bloom, and rocks and critters.
We have had a good trip this winter, but it is ending here in Az on Mon. Then we go to Texas to look around and meander to Franklin Louisiana on Sat.Then it is work for a week and boogy for home around the 7th of April.

Skunks galore

Well, if no one is going to post, I will post again. This post's topic is: More skunk fun. Tyson got bit and sprayed by a skunk last Sunday. Unlike the neighbor's dog, our dog did NOT kill it. At least we don't think so, because we can't find a carcass. The likely scenario is that Tyson tried to play with it.

This, among other reasons, is why we call him Big Stupid.

Varmints

We have had a new resident in the chicken coop last few weeks - a skunk. When I went out there to take care of the chickens after dark one time, I nearly walked in on a skunk. About every other night I would see it out there. I began to think I ought to do something about it, but didn't really want to shoot it in the coop - it stinks enough out there already. Well, last Sunday about ten we went outside to let the dogs out and we got a good whiff. I saw my neighbor out there with a flashlight, and knowing that his dog has killed skunks before, I went out there to see if that was the case this time. And yes, it was. So the neighbors got to enjoy the smell on their dog and I didn't have to worry about the skunk anymore. Or so I thought. I went over to the coop after leaving Steve and his dogs and stepped in. When I turned on the light, there was another skunk. I went and got the .22 and went back out there. I watched it for a while while it snuffled around the floor of the chicken area (I was in the feed storage area watching through the chicken wire.) When it went up on its hind legs to nose around at the chickens, I figured I better do something. I had read up and found that skunks will kill small chickens and eat eggs, and we had some chicks in the basement that will be going out there soon. So I shot it. About five times. I wanted to make sure it died before it could spray. And it did. Die, that is. I went back out there after a while to get it and it was quite dead and quite smelly. But it's gone. So there is my story of killing the ferocious skunk. The end.

Uncle Al update

on Sat Uncle Al was transferred to room 209 at the St James Manor on 394 by the Bible League. I went to visit on Monday, and he had not started therapy yet. He was alert and eating a little bit for the first time in a while. It took too much energy for him to eat as his breathing was so labored before. He was drinking some Ensure for nutrition during that time. He is on a higher level of oxygen and they are regulating his medication to make him as comfortable as possible.

My new "addiction"

I've found a new addiction - one that I've been looking for a long time. Etsy.com. It's site that is a place to buy and sell everything handmade. A place to talk with people about their craft, what inspires them, a resource for materials - a place with a lot of talented people and where I spend hours browsing other shops. I have my place there at http://www.christabelle81.etsy.com/. I have a lot of ideas, it's only time that's holding me back. Along with this, hopefully sometime early summer I'll have my revamped website up that'll showcase all my projects that I and/or Gary have done and a link to sell on Etsy. It's really excited and hopefully the beginning of something really cool!

On another note, Anna's baptism last weekend went really well. It was great seeing everyone and have them over at our house. :) Anna did well, she smiled when the pastor started putting the water on head. She looked beautiful in her dress - it was mom's baptism dress - as she's named after mom. What was a beautiful day!

While Gary's out in DC on a business trip, Anna once again did something for the first time. She got down the rolling on to her tummy thing from her back, but she couldn't get that darn arm out of the way to complete the task. Sunday she figured it out. :) Now she won't stop doing it and getting all tangled up in her bed resulting in crying and mom comes to the rescue. :) I think she'll walk in a month. Hehe.

Hope to see all of you very soon!

Love,

Christie

Uncle Al Klunder

Uncle Al has been in the hospital for 9 days now. The last time I e-mailed, he went in for pneumonia and was released in a day or two. He was home for a week or so and went back in for his COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) acting up.

He has grown weaker and weaker, he is not eating much, and his oxygen levels in his blood is low until he get a breathing treatment. He is unable to walk at this point. Carol and Sue have met with the St James Manor (on 394 by the Bible League), to get him admitted there to do therapy when he is released from the hospital. That is all still in the workings.

I talked to Sue tonight, and she said he is having a very bad day today.

Marge says she doesn't stay more than 1/2 hour at the hospital as he is so weak.

I just wanted to give you an update.

Love you all.

Doing well!

We woke up in Ruidosso where the weather forcast was mid to upper 20's and it was 13. More frozen stuff. It was two years ago we went to a yard sale here in our park in Tucson and I picked up a spare water pump for 5 dollars, [ a new one is close to 100 dollars] That was a simple job to change. We arrived in Sunsites on Monday and parked at Ruth and Al. Al was and is in the hospital in Tucson recovering from a triple bypass so Ruth was gone. We spent Mon afternoon at Harry and Betsy, had supper there. Tues we went to see Aunt Helen at the home she is in in Cochise. She is quite confused most of the time. she looks good, lost a lot of weight and is being well taken care of at this home. Uncle John Weeks is doing much better since Aunt Helen went into this home. His back is better now that he does't have to lift her and almost do everything for her, but he is alone in the house and would like her back in the house, but that won't happen.

We planned to spend several days in Sunsites, but since Al and Ruth were not there, and Harry and Betsy left for a short trip, we left for Tucson, arrived here Wed, and have been busy since we arrived. Wed night was the Diamonds, [ music from the 50's and 60's], Thurs we went to the rodeo. This is a BIG rodeo, School is closed for a week, it is on TV, and we got great seats. Fri washed the crud off of the car, went to the woodshop and started on laminated roof racks for the kayak. Mom went to sew some things for people in wheel chairs. Last night, Fri, we stayed put and read. Sat we are cooling it, half of the people are under the weather, and the other half have company. 70 degrees.

update on Brian Boss family

Just a quick update:

Last Sunday Katie gave a power point presentation in our church about her trip to Africa.

Kara's last basketball game is on Friday in Gurnee, not far from Great America.

Saturday is a pinewood derby, Brian and Kara are making cars, but they haven't finished yet.

My mom had a steroid injection into her spine and within 3 days she was pain free and has been doing much better.

Kelsey's graduation date had to be changed to Friday, May 9 at 7pm.

Katie has been sick with the flu for a few days.

Sickness Strikes Again UGGGGHHH!!

Hello All!

I hope you are all fairing this cold and flu season good. We can't seem to get out of it over here. Wayne caught something about 10 days ago, which he so kindly wanted to share with me. Between the chills, aches, fevers, dizziness, hacking coughs, and STILL not wanting to eat anything, we are just wanting to become mobile. Wayne is feeling somewhat better. Been going to work, but coming home and falling asleep very early. We've now passed on this wonderful whatever-it-is onto Kylie who then gave it to Mickey. They've both been down and out since Thursday night with 102-103 fevers. No throwing up, just cold, achy & tired.

Liz & Brittany I'm sure are up for it next, but Brittany hasn't missed a day of school in 5 years. She's got a pretty good immune system. HOPEFULLY they won't get this!

I'm ready to sanitize my house. AGAIN!! This is the second time in a month. I had never in my life had the flu shot before. When I went to the doctor with Kylie in December, they asked us if we wanted to get one as long as we were there. We said "Sure!" We've both had the flu twice now. Never again will I get that shot!

Anyway, here's hoping that all of you stay healthy. I know that this is going around school - either the puking flu, or the respitory flu. Hopefully none of you catch it!

I sure wish I were on my way to Arizona to bake this stuff out of me!
Mom & Dad, when you get down there, please send some warm air & sunshine up this way!

We left about 7:15 Fri A M. Drove to Lebanon, Mo., cold , but went well. Sat woke up to COLD weather, about 20, drove to Elk City, Ok., in rain, ice covered foliage along the road, and strong winds and found I did not winterize as well as I could have, some frozen and cracked water lines. Went to a local hardware store and got what I needed, fixed what I saw broken and found our water pump is bad. We need this when we are on the road and not hooked up to a water line. We will use water jugs until we get to Tucson and repair it there. Plugged in our new very powerful vacuum [V8] and found it doesn't work. Left old reliable at home. Not good. We got a call from Ruth Wilcoxon that Al is in the hospital and will have a double bypass operation tomorrow, Monday, and Ruth will be in Tucson also. We will park at their house and visit Aunt Helen and Unclr John and see Harry and Betsy and then decide when to go to Tucson. Our original plans were to go to Sunsites on Mon and on Sat go to Tucson. We'll play it by ear. Tonight is cold, below freezing, in Ruidoso N M.

Anna's Baptism

I just wanted to let everyone know that Anna's baptism is on Sunday, March 2 at our church, Fairhaven Ministries in Hudsonville, MI. Unfortunetely we don't have much room to accomodate families to sleep, but there is a hotel about 3 minutes down the road from us or I might be able to wrangle up some room at my lovely brother or Nicole's room at Calvin (I have to ask for though) for those cousins who may want to come.

It'll be at the 10:45am service (9:45am for those of you in IL) and we'll follow it up with a lunch/cake and coffee gathering at our house. Details on that have to be figured out yet. Let me know if your interested in coming, we'd love to have you out for the day or the weekend!

Love,

Home from the other side of the world!

Just wanted to let everyone know I am home safe from Africa...a little sunburnt (jealous?), exhausted, and fulfilled.

See my other blog (http://jetset-gypsy.blogspot.com/) for trip details. I will be updating it from home with pictures and a more detaled description of the trip.

Notice the time now? I went to bed about 3 hours ago....but it's 9am on my old time zone, and I'm WIDE awake.

Girls Basketball Game

Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone is doing good! Things are good over here. We just had Mickey's birthday sleepover party with 3 over her good friends. They were all up until midnight, which made for some tired kids on Saturday afternoon. They had fun though.

Liz & Brittany had their first basketball game last week. They won 20-6 against Calvin. They have an away game against Southwest Tinley on Tuesday, a home game on Thursday against Highland, and their Tournament on Saturday. They are VERY excited.

Kylie says hello to everyone as she is sitting here next to me and watching me type this. "WHAT UP?"

Well nothing exciting has happened in the past few weeks except the stomach flu hit me last Sunday/Monday and nobody else (THANK GOODNESS!!!)

Wayne is still in a holding pattern on working on the girls bedroom downstairs. He needs to finish the electric and put in the new window in the room before we can start insulating and drywalling. The girls are being VERY patient.

Just thought I'd give an update on the Boss Family in Lansing.
See you on Feb. 2!

The Cottage Book

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm almost finished with The Cottage book that I set up in Blurb (a digital photo album site) and you'll be able to purchase one if you're interested. It has all the pictures I took since we got the digital camera in 2004 and a lot of the pictures that some others took during the last weekend at the cottage. It'll be about 140-160 pages and you'll be able to purchase it for $34 in softcover or $40 in hardcover (plus S&H). I'll post a link to it when it's ready to be purchased.

Should be cool. :)

-Christie

The Poll

I just realized that there was a poll at the bottom of the blog about when we're going to have our next baby. I thought that was great! I guess you'll have to wait and see. :)

I have a bet going with dad right now about who can get under a certain weight first (guys usually have an advantage to that, but we shall see). Whoever reaches their goal first, takes the other out for dinner. Would anyone else like to partake and make this a friendly family competition? Let me know and I'll get it set up to keep track of the stats!

I have also made it my goal this year to try 10 new foods. So far, I've fallen in love with clementine oranges. I've never eaten an orange before, not sure why b/c I love orange flavored things, but they are #1 for this year. At the end of last year, I tried calamari and actually liked it. And it didn't have peanut butter or ketchup on it! I know, shocking!

I have a whole list of goals for my personal life, for my health, for my spiritual life and for my family. I won't share all of them, but I'm at least going to attempt to change my focus on different things. So we'll see.

With that, here's a picture of the Banana.

Love to you all (and post people, it's fun! - we gotta get G&G to sign up so they can use the blog for their trips to the daycare for seniors and their Mexican Dental adventures!)

Feeling great in 08!

I have a New Year's Resolution or 2 myself. Katie had a great idea (or stole one anyway) that coincides with my resolution. I want our family to strive for healthier year, in terms of exercise, eating better, maybe it's emotional or spiritual health, doing little things that make life simplier or happier. I'll write more about my specific goals later as I'm at work right now, but lets use this blog as one outlet to encourge eachother, to find workout buddies, people to hold us accountable for our goals. Yes, we are getting bigger and a lot busier, but we will always be family so lets hold on to that and find ways to keep in touch and close.

Great idea Katie and I hope others get involved in this too!

Love from the west side of the mitten :)

Kara basketball games this week

I am just checking things out here as I have never blogged before.

Kara has a basketball game at Elim on Thursday, Jan 3 at 3pm and on Friday, Jan 4 at 4 pm.

Here we go!

Welcome to The Boss BUnch Blog!

As is evident after holiday family gatherings this year, it gets more and more difficult for all 28 of us get together and keep up with eachother.

Before you overwhelm me with accolades on this brilliant idea, I'll admit--the idea was not my own. I stumbled across my good friend Alex Gesch's family blog a few weeks ago and thought it was a great idea for an expanding (both in size and location) family that can't get together as much as it used to, or would like to.

Whenever you are ready, go ahead and post! (the link is in the upper right hand corner of the screen if you are logged in) Add pictures using the small picture symbol on the tool bar. YOu can also add video, if you feel up for it.

Make sure you are logged in when you leave comments on other posts.

If there is an email address/family member I have forgotten that would like to be added to the author list, let me know.

Have fun!
